He liked it, so he put a ring on it!

Halle Berry confirmed what fans have been buzzing about: she’s engaged to musician Van Hunt, and she told People exactly how she knew he was “the one.” 

Speaking exclusively on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of her new thriller “Crime 101,” Berry described a kind of grown-up certainty that came with age and experience. “You know, you get to be 54, you just kind of done it a few times, three, to be exact,” she said. “You just kind of know when it's right, ’cause you know when it's wrong.”

The engagement was publicly confirmed during Berry’s appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Feb. 5, where she flashed the new ring and set the record straight after some earlier confusion. 

“No, that’s not the case,” she told Fallon when asked if she’d once said “no” — then added, smiling, “Of course, I said ‘yes, I would marry him.’” On the “Crime 101” carpet, she joked about the size of the sparkling ring. “Thank you. He did put a little ring on it,” she gushed.

Berry and Hunt went public with their relationship in 2020 after months of conversation during the pandemic. The couple has quietly built a long-term partnership that the actress has described as the best relationship of her life. The two were introduced by Hunt’s brother.

Jewelers who examined Berry’s ring call the piece “deeply personal.” Experts told People the center stone appears to be a bezel-cut diamond of roughly two carats, set within a sculptural cluster of more than 20 colored diamonds and gemstones on yellow gold. One jewelry pro estimated the setting and craftsmanship could place the piece’s value well into the six figures — potentially upwards of $200,000 — noting its mix of architectural modernism and vintage flair. “It’s one of those rings that immediately stands out,” one expert said. 

At the “Crime 101” premiere, Berry wore a chic black suit, a silk blouse, and a gold choker, showing off the ring to cameras while walking the red carpet with confidence. The timing of the engagement follows three prior marriages and years of public scrutiny for Berry — and her recent comments emphasize a hard-won clarity about what she wants now. 

Berry and Hunt have not announced a wedding date. For now, the couple appears focused on family and the next chapters of their creative lives and Berry’s new ring is doing what great jewelry does: it tells a story all its own!
