Lizzo Shares Powerfully Uplifting Message About Self-Confidence

“I was waiting for this epiphany to happen [that] one day I was just going to blossom into a different person.”

Lizzo opened up about her journey about confidently living her best life while sharing some words of affirmation. She revealed that she used to feel “ashamed” for being authentically herself for the longest time.

  • “So, I’m laying here and I’m thinking about confidence. Like, where confidence comes from,” she said in a recent Instagram livestream. “And, a lot of my confidence comes from a lack of shame.”

Although, the “Good As Hell,” songstress admitted that wasn’t always the case. “For a long time I was the most ashamed of myself. I didn’t like myself. I was waiting for this epiphany to happen [that] one day I was just going to blossom into a different person. That’s just not reality,” she shared.

  • Lizzo continued, noting “you can change and alter your appearance and that’s fine. But your confidence and the love that you have for yourself, there’s really no workout regiment, plastic surgeon, hair stylist, makeup artist that can really change that and beautify that.”

The 32-year-old shared that she had to instill in herself self-love and reframe her mindset instead of seeking validation from external outlets.

“You’re gonna have your thoughts. They’re gonna hurt my feelings sometimes, but at least it is who I am. And at least I’m proud of that. That is when I become confident,” she concluded.

  • Since she launched into the pop stardom, Lizzo has been candid about her mental health struggles and healing from past experiences in her life that caused her to have a negative outlook of herself.

“I think if I was 21 right now, I would not be able to maintain this lifestyle without having major anxiety and panic attacks,” Lizzo previously told British Vogue in her cover profile for its December 2019 issue. “But thank God, my journey is all about self-care and finding that love for yourself and nurturing yourself. Because that’s what artists need more than anything.”
