Simone Biles Calls Former Swimmer ‘Sore Loser’ For Attacking Transgender High School Athletes
Simone Biles was recently critical of former U.S. NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines for her support of the exclusion of transgender athletes in women's sports.
Gaines, now a conservative commentator, filed a lawsuit against the NCAA in March 2024 along with more than a dozen college athletes, accusing the organization of violating their Title IX rights by allowing transgender swimmer Lia Thomas to compete at the national championships in 2022.
In the competition, Thomas and Gaines tied for fifth, but only Thomas took home the prize in the 200-yard final. Since the race, Gaines has been a vocal opponent of transgender athletes participating in women's sports.
On Friday (June 6), she aimed at the Minnesota State High School League for disabling comments on their post after the Chaplin Park girls' team celebrated the state championships. The team includes a trans-athlete on its roster.
"Comments off lol," Gaines said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). "To be expected when your star player is a boy."
In response, Biles called out Gaines for her behavior since her defeat.
"You're truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race," Biles said.
"Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive or creating a new avenue where trans people feel safe in sports," the Olympic gymnast continued. "Instead...you bully them. One thing for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!"
"Bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male,” she added.
A long-time ally of the LGBTIA+ community, Biles’ support was praised for coming to the defense of trans high school athletes and calling out Gaines’ bullying tactics.
