Here's How Lil Wayne Feels About New Rappers Like Lil Yachty, Uzi Vert and 21 Savage

At least he keeps it real.

As much fame as Lil Yachty, 21 Savage and Lil Uzi Vert have gained since gracing XXL’s annual Freshman cover, they’re still not known to everyone in the rap game.

Lil Wayne, for example, was recently asked what he thought of the new crop of rappers in an interview with the New York Times. Not only did he not have an opinion of them, he didn’t even know who they were.

“I swear to God I didn’t know you were saying people’s names just now, so that should probably answer that question,” Wayne answered. “I just do my own thing.”

Wow. It shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise though. Weezy is known for his non-stop hustle, which usually has him listening to his own music for the most part. Speaking of that music, Wayne did touch on his long-anticipated next album, Tha Carter V, which he calls much different than anything out right now in hip-hop.

“[It’s] so much better than everything I’ve ever heard,” he described. “Not what’s going on right now — everything I’ve ever heard.”
