Come December Samuel L. Jackson will get his due.\r
The American Cinematheque has selectedJackson to receive its annual honor, to be presented at the organization's Dec. 1 gala at the Beverly Hilton, according to the Hollywood Reporter. AMC will air the event Dec. 9.  Jackson has five films in production this year, including Neil LaBute's "Lakeview Terrace," "Soul Men" and the Christmas release of the Frank Miller action drama "The Spirit."\r

Speaking of "Soul Men," Sam Moore, one-half of the "Sam and Dave" duo that hit big in the '50s, is a little peeved at the film for a plethora of reasons. One, Moore says he should have gotten some dap from producers since the story so closely mirrored Moore and partner Dave Prater's career. The movie stars Jackson and the late Bernie Mac as estranged members of a legendary soul group who reunite for a gig after another member dies.      sam_moore_brown.jpg

In the movie, they have a reunion concert," Moore, who made "Soul Man" a hit with Sam and Dave, tells New York Daily News columnists Rush & Malloy. "Dave and I had a reunion in 1982 after not talking with each other for years.

Moore also said that Jackson and Mac sing "Hold On, I'm Coming," which was a Sam & Dave standard.  Apparently producers tried to make some sort of concession, but Moore scoffed at their $1,000 offer for a walk-on role.

A thousand dollars!" he says. "Whoa. You know, slavery times have ended.

Moore, 72, is also put off by how much the N-word is reportedly used by the characters.

Even when Dave and I were fighting and cursing, we never used that word," he says. "It's an insult to every one of us who fought in the civil rights movement.  I don't understand how this can happen. It's not right.

Moore told the paper he plans on consulting a lawyer. Meanwhile "Soul Men" producer David Friendly insists that the film is purely fictional.
