Occupy Protesters Target Obama Campaign Offices

On Saturday, Occupy Des Moines activists vowed to shut down President Barack Obama?s campaign offices and camp outside of them around the clock. They want the president to cut military spending and create jobs.

<p>If it wasn?t clear that <a target="_blank" href="http://www.bet.com/topics/t/the-occupy-movement.html">Occupy protesters</a> weren?t already dissatisfied, they are now making sure top officials hear them, starting with <a target="_blank" href="http://www.bet.com/topics/b/barack-obama.html">President Obama.</a></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p></p> <p>On Saturday, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.occupydsm.org/">Occupy Des Moines</a> activists vowed to shut down President Barack Obama?s campaign offices and camp outside of them around the clock.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p></p> <p>?We have every intention to keep this place closed down until we are satisfied,? Frank Cordaro, an activist and founder of the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.catholicworker.org/communities/commlistall.cfm">Catholic Worker group</a> in Des Moines <a target="_blank" href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/occupy-activists-set-up-camp-outside-obama-re-election-office-in-des-moines/2011/12/17/gIQAHpz70O_story.html">told</a> the Associated Press.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p></p> <p>A small group of activists visited Obama?s nondescript office in a downtown strip mall over the weekend following larger rallies to mark the three-month anniversary of the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.occupywallst.org/">Occupy Wall Street</a> movement in New York. When they arrived, they found the door locked.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p></p> <p>The group hoped to read a statement demanding that Obama cut military spending in half and dismantle the military in order to create jobs and balance the budget.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p></p> <p>This is not the first time protesters have targeted President Obama, however. Earlier this month demonstrators<a target="_blank" href="http://www.bet.com/news/politics/2011/12/01/occupy-wall-street-protests-obama-fundraiser-in-new-york-city.html"> greeted</a> the chief executive in New York, where he attended three top-dollar campaign fundraising events.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p></p> <p>They say that they will continue efforts to make sure the president hears their message.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p></p> <p>Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt <a target="_blank" href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/occupy-activists-set-up-camp-outside-obama-re-election-office-in-des-moines/2011/12/17/gIQAHpz70O_story.html">declined</a> to comment.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><i></i></p> <p><i>BET National News - Keep up to date with breaking news stories from around the nation, including headlines from the hip hop and entertainment world.</i></p> <p></p>
