Hip Hop Awards 2022: Meet the Nominees for 'Hip Hop Artist of the Year'

Cardi B., Drake, and Kanye West are some emcees who snatched a nomination at this year’s event.

The BET Hip Hop Awards 2022 are less than a month away, and the nominations for “Hip Hop Artist of The Year.”  The category was nearly split among male and female acts this year, with Cardi B, Doja Cat, and Megan Thee Stallion each earning a spot, while Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and frequent collaborator Future, represented the guys. Ahead of this year’s event, which is slated to be a must-see event hosted by legendary rapper Fat Joe, get familiar with this year’s nominees, and don’t forget to tune into the  BET Hip Hop Awards airing 2022 Tuesday, October 4, at 9 PM ET/PT on BET.


    Bronx native Cardi B. is no stranger to the BET Hip Hop Awards stage and winner’s circle. The “WAP” emcee holds the record for most wins from a female artist.


    Doja Cat saw viral success as an internet meme with her 2018  following the release of her accidental single "Mooo!" Since then the multi talented star has capitalized off the attention proving her 15 minutes of internet shine was just the  beginning.


    Drake is leading this year’s ceremony with an outstanding 14 nominations, including three nodes along for “Best Collaboration” for his efforts on songs including  “Jimmy Cooks” featuring 21 SAvage from his recently released seventh studio, Honestly, Nevermind.


    The Atlanta native earned an impressive eight nominations in categories including  “Best Hip Hop Video,” “Best Collaboration,” “Song of the Year” and many more.


    Hip Hop and fashion genius comes in second place with 10 nods this year in several of the major groups including “Hip Hop Album of the Year,” “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,”’ “Song of the Year,” “Best Hip Hop Video,” and many more.


    Kendrick Lamar comes in third artist with the most nominations, racking up a total of nine nominations, two of which are for “Impact Track” for his work on “Family Ties” featuring Baby Keem and “The Heart Part 5.”


    The BET Hip Hop Awards has seen some explosive Megan Thee Stallion moments over the years and more can be made if the Houston hottie takes home “Hip Hop Artist of the Year.” With this year’s list, it’s anyone’s game.
