Prince Harry Rips Into the Media's 'Outright Racism' Toward His Black Girlfriend in Epic Statement

Meghan Markle has been in a firestorm since her relationship with the royal went public.

Well, this is new.

Prince Harry went from being extremely private about his relationship with Suits actress Meghan Markle to issuing an official statement about it. Sadly, it's not a love letter or a wedding announcement. The British royal sent a letter out to British press and social media trolls warning them to stop harassing Markle, who is Black, with their "outright racism."

The rare statement from Kensington Palace, which confirms the pair's relationship for the first time, said that "the past week has seen a line crossed" and accused the press and social media trolls of sexist and racial abuse. British papers have called Meghan "Straight Outta Compton" because she hails from inner city Los Angeles and have called her a "scandalous" choice for Harry because of her "visibly Black mother."
"His girlfriend Meghan Markle has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public — the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments," read the statement, which was posted to the palace Twitter account.

"Some of it has been hidden from the public — the nightly legal battles to keep defamatory stories out of the papers; her mother having to struggle past photographers to get to her front door," the statement continued, clearly referring to British paparazzi descending on Markle's mom's Crenshaw home and describing Markle as "Straight Outta Compton."
"Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle's safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her," the statement read.

Wow. For the typically private royals, this is a huge — dare say, princely — gesture. Looks like Meghan's man has her back. Get the full scoop on their relationship with BET Breaks above.
