That One Time Remy Ma Had to Finish a Nicki Minaj Lyric on 'Hip Hop Squares'

"I'm actually a big Nicki Minaj fan..."

Published April 10, 2017

As more months go on and more smoke clears from Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj’s explosive rap warfare, both women seem to have gotten off of their chests (and mics) what they needed to in addition to a few aftermath shots here and there.

However, in a recently-aired episode of VH1’s Hip Hop Squares, it looks like there was even more truth to the pre-war shots existing before their publicized hip-hop feud after all.

During the VH1 game show, which was filmed in 2016, well before the feud boiled over, Rem was tasked with finishing a lyric from Nicki’s “Anaconda.” The steamy lyric in question came from the second verse: “P***y put his [butt] to sleep, now he calling me Nyquil.” When Rem was asked to finish the latter part of the bar, she took a presumably educated guess seeing as though she wasn’t sure of the answer.

“You know what? I’m kind of thinking that she would have said something about her butt because that’s always like the every other two bars,” Remy answered before the audience and other celebrity competitors like Lil Duval, Vivica A. Fox and Eva Marcille caught the shade. Reasoning that the name of the song does so happen to be "Anaconda," from which the Bronx-native’s guess about the lyric stemmed from, she concluded that such a bar would only make sense.

“The name of the song is ‘Anaconda,’ you have to talk about your assets!,” she replied. “Where’s the anaconda gonna go?”

After more excitement from the audience, Remy surprises everyone with a revelation that, today, no one might have ever seen coming.

“I’m actually a big Nicki Minaj fan and I know all of her lyrics,” Rem added. Incorrectly reciting the rest of the bar, she unfortunately proved her previous statement to be a bit mistaken.

Nope, that wasn’t awkward at all.
