As avid fans of the Purple One protested, the hologram of the late, great musical legend Prince did not see the light of day on the halftime stage at the Super Bowl LII despite rumors of one planned for Justin Timberlake’s performance.
And though they were pleased that JT granted Prince’s wishes after death, fans still had a bone to pick with the "Sexy Back" singer — an 11-year-old bone.
Amid his performance, where he sat in his piano element as a life-sized projection of a performing Prince towered above him followed by an illusory purple wash over of the city of Minneapolis, the internet dug up Justin and Prince’s 2007 beef. It all started when Prince made commentary regarding the premise of JT’s smash “Sexy Back” hit of 2006.
“For whoever is claiming that they are bringing sexy back, sexy never left!” Prince said. The Man of the Woods artist clapped back a year later with his “Give It to Me” song, which seemed to take jabs back at Prince’s commentary.
One Golden Globes joke from Justin later, where he poked fun at Prince’s short stature, and the Purple Army would never let him live down the controversy with the Prince of Funk. Apparently, Hollywood film and comedy star Sinbad didn't either.

Yeah...Justin Timberlake DID diss Prince. I knew I wasn't crazy. pic.twitter.com/uoQOo6VWaS— Jay Dav-O (@ChocnessMonsta) February 3, 2018
Video of #justintimberlake making fun of #Prince at the Golden Globes during their little fallout years ago after Prince stated that sexy never left, referring to Justin’s hit song “Sexy Back.” Justin then dissed Prince in a song called “Give it to me.” Just wrote, “We missed you on the charts last week/ Damn, that’s right you wasn’t there/ Now if se-sexy never left, then why is everybody on my s**t/ Don’t hate on me just because you didn’t come up with it.” Via @gossipinthecity

"Only Janet Jackson fans dislike Justin Timberlake"— Ashley Reynolds (@Ashley_Reynolds) February 4, 2018
Oh? Let's check with Prince and Britney Spears fans.
Given that he started his solo career bashing Britney continuously and released a diss track to Prince I'd guess you'd be wrong claiming it's just Janet fans.
Either way prince hated him and Justin openly wrote a diss song about him. It’s just disrespectful in my opinion 🤷🏼♂️ pic.twitter.com/i7O8Oiilli— kodi mjrs (@CodyyMajorss) February 5, 2018
The nerve of Justin Timberlake to make a DISS VERSE about Prince then years later use him to save your TRASH ASS performance. Prince would have never set foot on stage with him... #justintimberlake #prince #pepsihalftime— XsquisitePain (@XsquisitePain) February 5, 2018
