Uh Oh: Twitter Unearthed Travis Scott Interview Where He Makes Anti-Black Comments Following Super Bowl Controversy

The rapper says offensive things about Mike Brown and more.

Travis Scott has had a great year musically, however in recent days, he’s been the subject of controversy.

  • First, it was announced that Travis Scott would perform at the Super Bowl after numerous other artists like Jay Z, Cardi B, and Rihanna reportedly turned down the opportunity in solidarity of Colin Kaepernick, who was effectively blackballed from the NFL.

Now, Twitter has unearthed comments the Houston rapper made in 2014 about black people that have people outraged. During a Hot 97 interview with Ebro in the Morning, Scott was asked about the then contemporary controversy surrounding the protests in Ferguson, Missouri that sprung up after the police killing of Mike Brown.

While most in the African American community would point blame at the problems of systemic racism in America’s police force, Travis suggested that Brown’s supposed behavior prior to his death was the cause of his untimely passing.

“I’m kind of angry, so many black people are acting like fake activists… I’m not saying he deserved to get killed, but I’m not saying that he didn’t deserve to pay for consequences he probably inflicted,” he said about Brown.

  • Travis then goes on to talk about “the problem with black people” and continued what many believe is victim blaming. “I know we’re like ‘fed up’ with whatever is going on in culture, but at the same time you gotta just stop putting yourself in positions where you’re continuously having this situation go down.”
