Here's Who Ariana Grande's "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored," Is About...

Sorry Arianators, that Big Sean rumor might be debunked.

Fans were, anxiously, on the edge of their seats when Ariana Grande dropped the tracklist for her fifth studio album, thank u, next, on January 23rd. The pop princess swapped out a heartfelt Mac Miller-inspired ballad, “reMeMber” for a NSYNC-influenced, Kandi Burruss-penned banger entitled, “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored.” Initially, many flooded social media, especially Ariana’s mentions assuming the track was about Big Sean’s relationship with Jhené Aiko. On the smash hit, “thank u, next,” Sean could “still get it,” at least according to his ex. Around the same time, rumors and speculation began to fly about the status of the rapper’s relationship with his TWENTY88 muse.

  • Even as the song hit streaming platforms, people still had thoughts about it being an ode to the Detroit phenom.

  • Meanwhile, after seeing the video, true stans felt it was actually an ode to self.

The Sweetener singer is seen to be plotting on a man in the club, but then spots his girlfriend... By the end of the visual, Ari drops a plot twist and ends up with the girlfriend. Some felt it was queerbaiting, while the majority of the internet tried to figure out why the "self-love" rhetoric wasn't "clicking."

  • Until Ari says otherwise, this is the backstory we're going for. Peep the visual below.
