A sad day for the Philly rap community arrived on Monday (March 25) when Philly battle rapper Tech 9, real name Akeem Micken, passed away, according to several major media outlets.
Though reports had not yet cited a cause of death, hip-hop fans found themselves in a state of confusion amid the devastating news over the 32-year-oldâs namesake. Several fans took to social media with shock and condolences for Kansas City native and Strange Music rapper Tech N9ne, whom they mistakenly believed the fatal reports were referring to. But after he took to social media himself to send loving words to the fallen battle rapper, while simultaneously shutting down rumors of his own fatality, the internet has finally gained some clarity.Â

âBeen battling for years. Iâve observed many battles of his. Condolences to the family.â He made sure to point out that âthis Tech N9neâ was making his way through customs at the airport after returning from his international excursion. Perhaps the video was even more necessary considering that his family was blowing up his phone amid the news, too, he said. Thankfully, he confirmed that he was OK.
