Lil Nas X's ‘Old Town Road’ Is Now Certified Diamond

It’s the fastest song in history to reach the certification.

Lil Nas X’s reign over the music charts won’t let up. On Tuesday (Oct. 22), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced that the country-rap star’s Billy Ray Cyrus-remixed hit “Old Town Road” has now been certified Diamond.

  • Not only was it the first release of 2019 to accomplish the feat, but it’s the fastest song in history to reach this milestone

In order to achieve Diamond status, a single or album has to move at least 10 million units. “Old Town Road” first came out in December 2018, followed by Billy Ray Cyrus’ remix in April and a subsequent version featuring Young Thug and Mason Ramsey. The song pulled off a record-breaking 19-week reign atop of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, making it the longest number-one single in the chart’s history.

  • In true meme lord fashion, Lil Nas had a little something on hand to commemorate the occasion

The 20-year-old star pulled up an old tweet in which he promised to send every single one of his three million Twitter followers Blu-ray copies of Phineas and Ferb’s Season 3 if “Old Town Road” went Diamond. For inquiring minds, that would run Lil Nas a cool $64 million, per one fan’s estimate.

  • He captioned the post with a photo of Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants making off like a bandit with a Photoshopped copy of the RIAA record grasped in his clutches. In case he thought they forgot or wouldn’t mind the oversight, fans have hilariously pressed Lil Nas demanding he make good on his promise.

“Pay up,” one fan jokingly commented in his mentions.

“There’s 104 days of summer vacation and we better get those blu ray discs soon,” another tweeted.

Congratulations to Lil Nas X on his latest accolade! Check out the most hilarious reactions to “Old Town Road” going Diamond below.
