Following reports that the Chicago-bred rapper had been rushed to a nearby hospital from the Chicago Midway Airport due to a medical emergency, it was later revealed that Juice died on December 8 after he suffered a fatal seizure. He was a mere 21 years old at the time of his untimely passing, and though there were no confirmed reports of the cause of death, several reports prematurely cited possible drug involvement.

As reported by the Chicago Tribune, an autopsy has now determined that Juice death’s was the result of an accidental overdose of oxycodone and codeine. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office released an announcement via Twitter on Wednesday (Jan. 22).

“The Medical Examiner's Office has determined the cause and manner of death of 21-year-old Jarad A. Higgins,” the public office stated on the social platform. “Higgins died as a result of oxycodone and codeine toxicity,” adding that it has been ultimately ruled that “the manner of death is accident.”

Shortly after, Juice’s family and his team at record label Grade A (an imprint under Interscope) uploaded a joint statement to his official Instagram account where they profusely thanked the fallen rapper’s fans for their “undivided adoration and love for Juice.” 

“You guys meant the entire world to Juice and by listening to his music, watching his videos and sharing your stories about him, you are keeping his memory alive forever,” the letter continued. 

They then revealed that a public tribute in honor of Juice’s memory is being planned. Additionally, his family and record label imprint intend to release never-before-heard music that Juice left behind. 

“We plan to honor Juice's talents, his spirit, and the love he felt for his fans by sharing unreleased music and other projects that he was passionately in the process of developing. There will be a public tribute in Chicago, details will be shared soon.”
