New York rap icon Jadakiss recently appeared on Genius’ For The Record where the Yonkers-bred MC chopped it with Genius’ Rob Markman about his latest album release among other topics.

  1. However, one particular tidbit that he shared during their conversation has been making waves among the rap community. As hip-hop heads will remember, Brooklyn-bred hip-hop mogul Jay-Z enlisted Beanie Sigel, Sauce Money, Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch to be featured on “Reservoir Dogs,” which appeared on his iconic 1998 album, Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life

  2. Speaking to Markman, Jadakiss recalled how the collaboration came together. At the time, The Lox had just landed back in New York on a flight when the rap trio got the call from the Roc Nation honcho to join him in the studio. While The Lox were down to collaborate, they had some luggage that they wanted to drop off at their respective homes first, but Hov requested their presence in the studio immediately.

“So we're like, ‘That's cool. We're gonna go home, put our luggage [away].’ And they were like, ‘Nah, [Hov] wants you to come there right now.’” Jada recollected. “We ain't got carry-ons. We got big s**t we had to check. So that put us on edge a little ‘cause we always lookin’ at it like, ‘If [Hov had] just landed, would he just come to the studio with his luggage? No!’ But that was a good edge.”

Once in the studio, Beanie and Sheek Louch laid down their verse that day. Styles P recorded his verse the following day. However, as Jadakiss revealed, P sent shots at Hov out of frustration over being forced to come to the studio despite their exhaustion. The bars in question are the following:

I don't give a F**K who you are, so F**K who you are / I don't care about a pretty b**ch, watch or a car / I don't care about your block and whoever you shot,” P raps. “I don't care about your album and whenever it drop / I don't care about your past if I did I woulda asked.”

  3. “He was going at Hov on there,” the 44-year-old acknowledged. “Hov was like, ‘Well, it sounded like you talking about me on it.’”

Elsewhere in the 34-minute interview, Jadakiss revealed that he decided to delay the release of his fifth studio album, Ignatius, out of respect for fast-rising Brooklyn rap star Pop Smoke. The 20-year-old rapper was murdered in a home invasion earlier this month. His death has remained unsolved as the police continue to search for answers
