Following his release from prison in 2018, Philly MC Meek Mill has dedicated himself to advocating for social justice reform through REFORM Alliance and raising awareness about mass incarceration disproportionately targeting people of color. On Sunday (Mar. 8), Meek showed that racial profiling is also among social reform issues to be tackled.
Meek was traveling in his PUMA-emblazoned private plane when he made a quick pit stop in Miami to refuel and grab food. But his detour turned out to be much longer when security decided to search his jet and all of the passengers’ luggage. Taking to his Instagram page, Meek voiced his thoughts on the scenario, stating that he’d been profiled because of his race.
“How many times you got to be searched being Black, man?” Meek rhetorically posed to the camera as he filmed the tarmac from inside his private plane. A security person can be seen with a K-9 on a leash in the background.
“I be telling them the least you could do is give us an explanation for being searched. Y’all already know we Black [and] we be getting searched too much,” Meek continued. “All our bags and s***t got laid out. We just landed in Miami to pick up food and gas. Now, they are making us take all our bags out to go to an island.”
Fortunately, it doesn’t appear the authorities discovered anything on the plane and his trip went unimpeded. Meek posted a picture of himself sitting poolside in front of an ocean somewhere tropical.
