Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have formed a formidable partnership since the two superproducers launched their Verzuz battle series on Instagram. Since the country has been under quarantine, the two have managed to set the Internet ablaze through their virtual battles between some of music’s most celebrated artists, such as Sean Garrett and The-Dream, T-Pain and Lil Jon, Ne-Yo and Johnta Austin, and Mannie Fresh and Scott Storch.
Most notably, R&B legends Teddy Riley and Babyface’s epic match finally took place on Monday night (April 20).
Recently, the two powerhouse producers talked over Instagram Live to discuss their next step . During the livestream, Swizz and Timb touched on the possibility of a battle between Dr. Dre and Diddy.
“We need [Dr.] Dre to show up for the culture, we need Puff to show up for the culture. Those are two mastermind generals and they need s**t right. I say we go pay-per-view.” Swizz proclaimed.
Timb agreed with his suggestion. “Those the Gods, n***a,” he continued “That’s like Zeus, Poseidon, Medusa….that’s like that super friend level.”
However, Dre might not be interested. While Teddy was in the middle of his battle with Babyface, Dre called in and told him, “I don’t know if I’m interested in doing that but we’ll see what it is. I was going back and forth with Puff earlier today.”
This comes as a disappointing blow to hip hop fans who have been hoping for a face-off between the two hip-hop moguls since Verzuz started, although the final decision hasn’t been made yet. Swizz and Timb have been expanding their Verzuz battles and earlier this week multiple reports emerged that Timb filed a trademark for “Verzuz TV.”
“Swizz and I had this idea for quite some time. And last night (the battle of Teddy Riley VS Babyface) showed how powerful we are,” he exclusively told The Shade Room. “So VERZUZ TV has to be now. [We’re] taking it to the next level.”
