French Montana Clarifies He Has No ‘Real Beef’ With Young Thug: ‘It Was A Miscommunication’

The MCs traded verbal blows last week over French’s assertion he had “more hits” than Kendrick Lamar.

French Montana says he’s not beefing with Young Thug

  • Recently, French was on Instagram Live with his fellow New York rapper Fat Joe where he addressed his intense war of words with the Atlanta trapateer. The “Unforgettable” rapper cleared the air between the two and established that there “wasn’t no real beef” between them. French explained that he was simply defending himself, although he didn’t expect the situation to escalate the way it did.

  • “All I did, I want the people to know all I did was stand up for myself in every situation,” French said. “The Jim Jones beef, that was Max B but he’s my brother so his beef is my beef. And I beefed with Jim for 15 years ‘cause of Max and I still didn’t squash the beef with Jim until Max said ‘It’s all good. So, that’s what type of guy I am.”

The 35-year-old clarified that he was moreso upset at how Young Thug inserted himself into the discussion, telling Joe, “You not gonna [sic] come call me a fool knowing it’s about something else that had nothing to do with me and Kendrick.”

  • “It was wack, and I hate that it happened like that since it’s Ramadan. It’s my second-day fasting. I want to do the positive thing here and stay out [of] the way of trouble ‘cause at the end of the day, me, Thug, and Kendrick is [sic] three different artists,” French continued. “I just feel like I want everybody to do their thing. I ain’t got no beef with him. It wasn’t no real beef. It was a miscommunication about something...we all know [Kendrick’s] a goat. We all know he’s at the top of the food chain.”

He reiterated that he wasn’t talking down on Kendrick who he considers one of rap’s top MCs.” “I was just putting myself to the test when it comes to them hits,” he elaborated.

  • RELATED: Young Thug And French Montana Continue To Trade Verbal Blows

Last week, French Montana and Young Thug came to verbal blows French asserted that go up against any of his rap contemporaries hit-for-hit, and mentioned the Compton MC.

“Honestly, you put someone like Kendrick Lamar next to me on the same stage at a festival. I might outshine him,” French said in an interview with Complex. “Not because I’m a better rapper or whatever it is. It’s just I got more hits. Kendrick Lamar got albums, masterpieces. But if we were put up on a festival stage, I would outshine him because I got more hits.”

Irked, Young Thug uploaded a video on social media where he rebuffed the assertion, and it sparked a week-long war of words with other artists taking sides.
