Rihanna Shares Heartwarming Note Celebrating 15 Years Since Release Of ‘Pon De Replay’
Can you believe it’s been 15 years since “Pon de Replay” was released on May 24?
Well, neither can Rihanna, who took to social media to reflect on the years that have passed since the release of her breakout single.
In commemoration of the single’s 15th anniversary, fans trended #15YearsOfRihanna across social media platforms. The Barbadian singer noticed and was moved by the show of love.
Via her Instagram Stories, the Fenty mogul penned a heartfelt note to express how grateful she is for the love and support that her fanbase, the Rihanna Navy, have showered her with throughout the years that’s allowed her to reach this current point of her career.
“Man this feels trippy. Feels like just yesterday I was shaking in the hallways of Def Jam waiting to audition for Jay,” Rihanna reminisced. “Pon de Replay is where it all began...15 years later and I’m here because God led me to you.”
She continued, “you guys have held me up, supported me, tolerated me, loved me, kept it too real with me. We [gon’] always be connected because of that!”
Released on her 2005 debut studio album, Music of the Sun, under Def Jam, the dancehall-inspired lead single was positively received. “Pon de Replay” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went double platinum.
Rihanna ended her note with some words of appreciation for her dedicated legion of fans. “I love you Navy and I cherish you. I’m so grateful to be gifted you as my fans and family,” she concluded.
