Tina Turner Comes Out Of Retirement To Drop A Remix Of ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’

The Queen of Rock-n-Roll is back.

It’s been years since Tina Turner has released any music or been out on a tour, but now the 80-year-old music legend is gearing up to come out of retirement for a collaboration with DJ Kygo.

  • On Monday (July 13), the Norwegian producer announced the exciting news on Twitter that he and Turner have teamed up to release a remix of her iconic classic, “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

“What’s Love Got To Do With It’ is one of my all time favorite songs, and it feels surreal to get the opportunity to work with such a legendary artist! Can’t wait for you all to hear it,” the 28-year-old wrote along with a photo of him and Turner together.

  • Released in 1984, “What’s Love Got To Do With It” was the lead single for Turner’s fifth solo album, Private Dancer. Immediately upon its release, the song surged up the charts and claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Turner’s first and only solo release to do so, according to Billboard.

The album went on to win three Grammy Awards including Record of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Female, and Best Rock Vocal Performance. In 2012, “What's Love Got to Do with It” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The eight-time Grammy-winning and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s life and stardom was also chronicled in the 1993 biographical film, What's Love Got to Do with It? with Angela Bassett portraying Turner. Bassett received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal and went on to also win a Golden Globe.

  • If you’re not familiar with DJ Kygo, you probably already know his work. In 2019, Kygo released a cover of Whitney Houston’s “Higher Love.” The song went on to become the late singer’s first posthumous hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, according to Billboard

We can't wait to hear Turner and Kygo’s new remix when it drops this Friday, July 17!
