On Wednesday (August 19), the Los Angeles Times reported that the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office is now considering a possible felony assault charge with a firearm against Tory Lanez on top of his previous charge.
The Canadian artist was initially booked and charged for possession of a concealed firearm following his arrest on the night of the July 12 shooting incident that left Megan Thee Stallion with gunshot wounds to both of her feet.
He was later released after posting his $35,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on October 13.
A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office told the newspaper that the latest charge came about after prosecutors asked the Los Angeles Police Department to further investigate the incident in late July.
This new report came hours after Megan Thee Stallion took to Instagram to dispel internet speculation that she was faking her injuries. Rumors started up after videos of the 25-year-old enjoying herself over the weekend surfaced online. In response, the Houston rapper shared pictures of her the wounds she sustained to the back of her feet shutting down the speculation. In one of the photos she posted, stitches can be seen on the bottom of her feet while in another a doctor appears to be inserting or removing stitches on her other foot.
“Lol what I have learned abt majority of the people on social media is y’all like to hear bad news before good news, a lie spreads quicker than the truth. I got hit at the back of my feet because when I got shot I was WALKING AWAY FACING THE BACK. why would I lie abt getting shot?” she wrote in the since-deleted post. “Why are y’all so upset that I don’t wanna be in the bed sad? Why y’all upset that I can walk? I got my stitches out my feet like two weeks ago and I was ready to celebrate WAP going number one.”
Tory Lanez still has not publicly commented on the matter.
