Miguel Accidentally Kicks Fan at Billboard Awards

Awards show highlights include a meme-worthy moment from the "Adorn" singer.

Of all the big moments at the Billboard Music Awards (Nicki Minaj giving Lil Wayne a lap dance, Justin Bieber getting booed and Chris Brown's vocally-challenged rendition of "Fine China"), Miguel's performance, which epitomized the old adage "the show must go on," was certainly the most memorable.

The R&B crooner was mid-chorus during his "Adorn" when he leaped off the stage and mistakenly drop kicked a fan Sunday night (May 19).

He was attempting to jump over the crowd onto a smaller stage. When he finally made his way to the smaller stage and off the fan's neck he stayed low for a moment, reached back to offer the audience a hug, and then jumped up to continue singing.
The hit looked brutal, but once backstage the 27-year-old confirmed she survived with no serious injuries. Introducing his new, smiling "friend" to the media, Miguel said, "I'm very happy to bring my new friend, Khyati, we just met ... Unfortunately, we did not meet under the best circumstances, but I think we're OK."
He also tweeted an explanation. "Got caught up in the moment, thank goodness Khyati is OK," he wrote. Khyati only needed to soothe her arm with an ice pack. Still, before long, tons of memes hit the Internet, showing the singer Photoshopped into various backgrounds, including a wrestling ring.

In between all the hoopla there were also a bunch of awards given. Among the winners were Minaj with three trophies, Rihanna, who snagged four awards, and Seattle-based rapper duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, whose "Thrift Shop" single grabbed the Top Rap Song honor.

The night's biggest winner was Taylor Swift. The country star took home 8 out of the 11 awards for which she was nominated.
Be sure to check what Miguel brings to the stage at the BET Experience, kicking off (no pun intended) June 28.
