Here's What DMX Learned From His Latest Arrest

44-year-old rapper shares a new perspective.

If there’s anybody who stands to learn a lot from being arrested so many times, it’s DMX. The 44-year-old rapper was mostly recently arrested in late June for unpaid child support, and he’s learned a valuable lesson from it all.

“I’ve learned to make my court dates, that’s pretty much it…and open the certified mail," X told TMZ Live Monday.

Like rapper Kidd Kidd’s arrest last week, police took X as he was making his way to a New York City show. However, X said the “timing” was just a “coincidence,” and not necessarily a case of him being targeted. (He also acknowledged not paying child support, but claims to be in the process of rectifying the matter.)

“I guess they [authorities] were watching us all day,” he explained. “I wish I could’ve performed but I don’t think it would’ve went as smoothly if I did perform. So in terms of looking at it from their perspective, they did a good job.”

The Yonkers, N.Y., native admitted to being caught “extremely off guard” by the bust since police were dressed in plain clothes at the time. “At first I didn’t know it was police, because I didn’t see any badges. It was a little unnerving, kind of like a kidnap move…[a] jack move, or whatever.”

X does believe in the “hip hop police,” but he doesn’t think that’s what happened in his case. “I know for a fact that they exist,” said X. “I think their main focus is to protect the rappers…the guys that need protection.”
