UPDATE: Madame Tassuads is not removing Nicki Minaj’s wax figure, Billboard reports. "Nicki Minaj’s wax figure has not been removed from Madame Tussauds Las Vegas," Cole Kouvaris of the museum said in a statement. "The set has merely been adjusted."
PREVIOUS: Excessive fan fondling put the nail in the coffin for Nicki Minaj’s wax figure just one month after its debut. The statue, featuring Minaj on all fours, is set to be removed from Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas, reports Saint Heron.
The wax figure’s pose was inspired by her “Anaconda” video and was criticized as a sexist and racist representation of the Queens rap star. It also became pretty obvious that fans took the image as an open invitation to get freaky with the lifelike statue.
Though Minaj didn’t seem to have a problem with it, Madame Tussauds beefed up security as a way to stop some of the raunchy fan photos (like a female fan sticking her tongue on its butt, or the guy who looked like he was pretending to have sex with the wax figure).
Since heightened security didn’t work, the company is reportedly taking “immediate steps to ensure more staff are present in this area and that the set around this particular figure is redesigned so that a picture like this cannot be taken again.”
Madame Tussauds hasn’t publicly confirmed that the figure will be removed. It’s unclear if Minaj will be consulted on the new design.
