  • According to Sgt. Stewart Smith, Jeremiah Israel and his father took a boat out Sunday evening for a fishing trip.  The pair tied the boat to a bridge on Cameron Mill Road so they could sleep.

  • Smith told the Daily News, overnight, Israel’s father awoke and walked straight into the water. He was confused, thinking he was at home. Jeremiah immediately jumped into the water to save his father but never resurfaced.

A group of boaters, about 20 to 30 feet away from the incident, spotted Israel’s father and helped him back into the boat. The dad was taken to West Georgia Medical Center and released, shortly after.

This incident is being investigated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
