LeBron James Slammed By Hong Kong Protesters For Saying Daryl Morey Was ‘Misinformed’

The Lakers' superstar is under fire.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James opened up about the China situation the NBA has landed itself in.

Prior to a preseason game on Monday (October 14th), James said Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey’s tweet in support of Hong Kong was "misinformed."

"I believe he was either misinformed or not really educated on the situation, and if he was, then so be it," James said. "I have no idea, but that is just my belief. Because when you say things or do things, if you are doing it and you know the people that can be affected by it and the families and individuals and everyone that can be affected by it, sometimes things can be changed as well. And also social media is not always the proper way to go about things as well, but that's just my belief."

Bron’s quotes made the rounds all over the internet, and users started to go in on the four-time league MVP.

He took to Twitter in an attempt to clarify, saying:

“Let me clear up the confusion. I do not believe there was any consideration for the consequences and ramifications of the tweet. I’m not discussing the substance. Others can talk About that.”

The substance of course being that there are those in Hong Kong that want to maintain independence from China, due to the latter’s role as an autocratic, communist regime that has committed atrocities against its citizenry.

The users on social media criticizing Bron are pointing out the use of his platform to champion domestic issues like civil rights and equal treatment under the law for Black people. Their position being, what’s going on in Hong Kong is the same thing, and the only reason Bron is not being firm is money.

Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska said Bron is “parroting a communist agenda.”

Others like MLB Network’s Jon Heyman said, “NBA cares more about money than freedom.”

Suffice to say this situation between the NBA and China isn’t going away anytime soon. More’s the pity.
