Is anyone having a better 2018 than Cardi B? I don't think so. The "Invasion of Privacy" hit maker is conquering the music world as well as the fashion industry. From dropping a No. 1 album to slaying every red carpet appearance, it's clear that Cardi is poised to become the next fashion icon.
So it came as little surprise when Cardi announced that she had collaboration in the works with FashionNova, which Cardi has been wearing and repping long before her "Bodak Yellow" days.
BET caught up with the New York-born entertainer during the launch party of her Fashion Nova line last night in Los Angeles where she performed, walked the red carpet and talked about the excitement of her first clothing line. The new mom shared her thoughts on what she wants women to embody when wearing her clothes, and why she thinks the fashion world has embraced her as much as hip-hop.
"[This line] means a lot for me because it's something new. It's almost like premiering an album. It's something I've wanted to do and dreamed of and now dreams are coming true."
While she's worn pieces from high-fashion labels, Cardi is still just a regular girl from the Bronx who loves her high-street wear. The new collaboration is for women of all ages and sizes to drip in style (on a budget) and makes it easy for every woman to mix high and low. Cardi's collection features 80-100 pieces, all designed by the rapper herself.
Cardi hopes young girls and women who wear her line feel empowered, rich and clean. "I didn't want to make it so hoochie-mama, I want people to feel very high-end."
Cardi believes the fashion world has embraced her so much because she knows the industry well. Since her meteoric rise to fame, she has sat in many front rows, attended the most exclusive parties and even hit the stage during some runway shows. "I study the looks, I study everything," she says. "I make sure that everything is one point."
She adds, "when it comes to style you have to make sure your hair, your shoes, your make-up it's on point."
Her favorite pieces in the collection are the jackets: "I love jackets," she stated. "I was very specific on what type of material I wanted."
Cardi's Fashion Nova line is very office-ready with several looks from trousers, suits, and blouses that will make you look like a music industry boss.
Most items cost approximately $40 and up. Fashion Nova x Cardi B is out now, you can purchase here when she restocks. As of publish time, this collection has been sold out.
