Esperanza Spalding

Esperanza Spalding gained worldwide attention when she won Best New Artist at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2011, the first jazz artist to ever win the title in the show's history. An alumnus of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, and one of the youngest professors in the school's history, the skilled bassist, vocalist and composer released her debut album, Junjo, in April 2005. The Portland native released her latest project, Radio Music Society, in March 2012. Spalding released a protest/action single “We Are America” in November 2013 protesting against Guantánamo prison camps. The song featured Stevie Wonder and Harry Belafonte.
