BET Awards 2022: 5 of Wizkid’s Hottest U.S. Collaborations

Afrobeats star Wizkid is steadily on the path to becoming an international pop star. After establishing himself as a prominent entertainer in his native home of Nigeria, a career filled with record-breaking moments, the “Essence” singer is ready to take on America. He’s already off to a successful start having teamed up with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Grammy Award-winning rapper Drake and singer Justin Bieber. He’s also received several awards and nominations, including a “Best International Artist” nom at the BET Awards 2021.

Ahead of this year’s BET Awards 2022, hosted by actress Taraji P. Henson we’re looking back at some of the hottest US collaborations from the African artist. Also, don’t forget to tune into the culture’s biggest night happening live on Sunday, June 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

  • “Come Closer” feat. Drake

    Wizkid teamed up with Canadian hip hop star Drake for this uptempo 2016 release from the Nigerian singer’s third studio album, Sounds from the Other Side, making him the second African artist to be certified Gold after Davido.

  • “Essence” feat. Justin Bieber and Tems

    After the release of his 2021 smash hit “Essence” featuring fellow Nigerian singer Tems. Following the song’s massive success, including a nomination at the 64th  Annual Grammy Awards for “Best Global Music Performance,” he teamed up with Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Justin Beiber for a remix.

  • Drake “One Dance” feat. Wizkid

    While Wizkid celebrated the success of his Drake-assisted single “Come Closer,” he also enjoyed the fruits of another collaboration with the Canadian rapper. Released simultaneously, “One Dance” peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and marked his most successful mainstream record.

  • “Smile” feat. H.E.R.

    Wizkid teamed up with singer-songwriter H.E.R. for a song celebrating life and his three children. The song even made its way onto former President Barack Obama’s 2020 summer playlist.

  • Justine Skye - “U Don't Know “feat. Wizkid

    Up-and-coming R&B and pop singer Justine Skye enlisted Wizkid for this uptempo track title “U Don’t Know ” of her debut album Ultraviolet.
