This Week in Good Black News: Michelle Obama, Teyana Taylor, Eddie Murphy, and Bianca Belair All Gave Us Something to Celebrate
Black joy showed up in a big way this week, and it came from four very different corners of the culture, with plenty to celebrate.
From Michelle Obama giving Angel Reese her flowers and Teyana Taylor's latest next-level career move with an iconic brand, to some major news from the Lawrence-Murphy family and a surprise announcement from Bianca Belair that had everybody talking, the latest good Black news roundup is packed with wins that remind us the spirit is still loud, proud, and very much undefeated.
Michelle Obama and Angel Reese made a powerful pair on “IMO.” The former First Lady praised Reese for handling public pressure with grace, calling her “a special, special person” and telling critics not to “mess with this angel.” Reese, who was traded to the Atlanta Dream earlier this month, opened up about the weight of being constantly watched and judged. Obama also shared that Black women in the spotlight deserve softness, too.
Teyana Taylor’s new Revlon moment is giving beauty and legacy. Revlon announced Taylor as the new face of its Super Lustrous Lipstick franchise, and the star called the product “the kind of beauty that elevates your whole vibe without taking away from who you are.” The brand said Taylor represents the modern evolution of glamour, and honestly, that tracks.
Legendary comedians Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence just welcomed a brand-new branch of the family tree. The comedy legend confirmed that his son Eric Murphy and Lawrence’s daughter Jasmin Lawrence welcomed their first child together, a baby girl named Ari Skye, during Eddie’s AFI Life Achievement Award weekend. The Murphy-Lawrence family officially just got a little cuter.
Bianca Belair turned WrestleMania into a baby announcement. At WrestleMania 42, the WWE star surprised the crowd by revealing she is pregnant with her first child, with husband Montez Ford by her side. Belair later said she was nervous to share the news, but overwhelmed by the love.
