If You Ask SZA, Kendrick Lamar's Grammy For Album Of The Year Is 'Past Due'

The R&B singer has nothing but love for K. Dot.

As the 60th annual Grammy Awards slowly make way, music critics, audiophiles and others alike have already begun to predict who will win big this year.

But, if you ask SZA, the only artist deserving of the coveted accolade of Album of the Year is an easy choice: Kendrick Lamar.

In a "best new artist hopefuls"-themed interview with Billboard alongside Khalid and Julia Michaels, the "Love Galore" singer touted DAMN. as the obvious Album of the Year choice. "I don't know Ed [Sheeran] personally, though I love him and his music," SZA said when asked who she'd root for between Ed and Kendrick. "But I watched [Lamar's] process — he's a true, genuine genius."

"Dot doesn't play any instruments, but he designed and produced his whole album," the sultry songstress continued. "From scratch. Like... it's too much. It's too incredible. I've never witnessed anyone do that, except for maybe Frank [Ocean]. It's past due. He's the most inspiring person I've ever met in my entire life."

After Khalid chimed in with his own thoughts on the importance of DAMN. amid the country's current climate, SZA continued, "He somehow manages to be an activist with a platinum album. It's very rare."

Thus far, K. Dot has snagged seven Grammys over the course of his illustrious career. His first, in 2015, was for "i," a standout track off of To Pimp a Butterfly. The album was also nominated for Album of the Year, but ultimately lost to Taylor Swift's 1989.
