Divorce Papers Reveal ‘White Supremacists’ Texts From Arkansas Disgraced Trooper

A former State Police trooper resigned after his wife introduced dozens of racist and hateful text messages as evidence in their divorce case.

An Arkansas State Police trooper resigned after court records in his divorce case surfaced text messages containing racist and anti-LGBTQ slurs, according to KATV. The case has drawn attention because the messages reportedly included derogatory language about Black, Hispanic, Muslim, and LGBTQ people, and the trooper’s wife said the texts showed extremist beliefs she feared could affect their children.

Michael Austin Kennedy resigned in May after the messages became public in amended divorce filings—court records included roughly 30 screenshots of disturbing messages Kennedy allegedly sent to his wife. The texts also reference hateful memes and comments about people he encountered while working as a trooper. You can view the court documents and messages, per KATV, here.

In the filing, Kennedy’s wife, Alana Delaney Kennedy, described him as a white supremacist and asked for sole custody of their two young children, saying she feared he would “poison the minds of the children” with his views. Court documents cited by the station also said Kennedy’s resignation left the family without employment-based health insurance.

"He blames [Alana] and everyone else for their reaction to his toxic behavior, but does not admit that the disrespect for people, his family, and his children was the trigger that made her react," Alana's filing said, per People. "This is an example that no one plays the victim better than the one who caused the damage."

Kennedy’s attorney did not deny the messages, but said the remarks were inappropriate and do not reflect his current values. The attorney also argued the messages were sent months before the divorce case began and should be viewed in that context.

"[Michael] explicitly acknowledges, takes full responsibility for, and deeply regrets the highly offensive and unacceptable language used in the referenced past communications,” said his lawyer’s filing. “[Michael] makes no excuse for those statements; they were entirely improper, do not reflect [Michael's] values today, and [Michael] is profoundly ashamed of them.”

Arkansas State Police have not publicly detailed any separate internal discipline beyond the resignation, KATV said.
