Here’s Why Loyal Customers Are Concerned Mielle’s Rosemary Mint Hair Oil Will Become Too Mainstream And Expensive!

The owner of Mielle released a statement after the best selling products went viral on TikTok.

Having a hard time getting your hands on Mielle’s Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil? You’re not the only one. In case you missed it, Mielle is the latest Black-owned haircare brand to go viral on TikTok, and this time it's personal.

There’s a debate on social media about whether or not the brand, which specializes in Black hair, will continue to live up to its customer-favorite formula or will it become the latest brand to fall the the pressures of appealing to mainstream appeal.

Here’s the quick breakdown of the ongoing conversation.

  • What is Mielle’s Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil?

Before we get into the drama, let’s talk about Mielle’s Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil. According to the brand’s website, it is an oil designed to strengthen hair, smooth split ends, help with dry scalps, and promote healthy growth with the use of more than 30 essential oils and extracts.

“Our Rosemary Mint scalp and hair oil is a nutrient-rich, intensive formula meant to help you address your hair concerns,” the product description reads on the brand’s website. “This hair oil uses natural, organic ingredients and essential oils to provide the care your hair deserves.”

Since the launch of the product, Black folk has taken to social media to rave over the bestselling product that’s infused with Biotin.

  • What’s The Tea?

The drama began when a wave of white influencers began recommending the benefits of Mielle’s Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil to their millions of TikTok followers.

Amongst the mega-influencers to praise the product was Danielle Athena, who posted (and later deleted) her “wash day” hair tutorial that highlighted the rosemary-mint scalp and hair-strengthening oil.

Alix Earle also posted a TikTok video in December 2022 praising the “tremendous hair growth” she’s seen after using the product for a little over a month. The influencer is known for her ability to sell out products in minutes. The video has over five million views.

  • Concerns From The Black Community About Lack of Availability

Since the viral TikTok post, many loyal customers of Mielle have complained that they cannot get their hands on the Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil both online and in stores.

“NOOOOOOO the Mielle oil is about to get even harder to get I can’t breathe,” someone wrote on TikTok. Another chimed in, “I need my ppl to learn how to start gatekeeping cause I can’t!!!”

  • Concerns From The Black Community About A Change In Formula

Loyal fans of Mielle also took to social media to express concerns that the continued marketing from white influencers could possibly cause the brand’s Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil to increase in price and ultimately become less available to those who particularly need the products to keep their natural curls nourished and healthy.

“Now Mielle is gonna be outta stock/expensive. Sistas we gotta start gatekeeping,” one person commented. Another added, “Our hair products [are] already expensive and we don’t even wash every week. Now y’all bouta buy it out just to wash it out.”

Others also voiced concern that the brand may consider making formula changes to appeal to a larger audience. “The formula is about to change and so is the price,” one wrote with disappointment.

  • The Owner Of Mielle Speaks Out

Monique Rodriguez, the owner of Mielle, confirmed that her company has no intention of changing the formula of the Rosemary Mint Oil or any other products from the brand without being transparent.

“There have been a few recent comments posted on this topic but I can personally guarantee you that we are not making any ingredient changes,” Rodriguez shared in an Instagram post in January 2023. “ I also wanted to come here first to assure you directly that we have no plans to change the formula for Rosemary Mint Oil or any of our products.”

She concluded, “Please know that we would always inform you in full transparency if any adjustments are made to the products you love and trust.”
