Everyone Thinks This Is The Reason Drake Sent J. Cole A Text Message Saying 'I Hate You'

Plot twist.

J. Cole isn’t shying away from the spotlight in 2018, which might prove to be a challenge anyway after the blazing success of his record-breaking K.O.D. album since its April release.

It’s only right, then, that he sits down with renowned media personality and radio host Angie Martinez for a second time, who sent Dreamvillians into a frenzy when she announced on Wednesday (May 15) that an interview with Cole would be dropping soon. Until then, she dropped a few snippets from their conversation for anxious fans—one of which included Cole’s hilarious answer to a question about beating Drake's streaming record.

  1. Angie asked the '1985' rapper whether he'd heard from Drizzy after beating out his Spotify streaming record (and nabbing a No. 1 spot on Apple Music, too)

  2. “Yeah, he texts me and says I hate you,” Cole joked.

  3. Cole was just pulling legs, though. Even if the “God’s Plan” emcee did, it'd all be in brotherly considering that Drizzy has always been a major supporter and friend of Cole's.

  5. Any congratulations from Cole's fellow industry mates is well-deserve though, as K.O.D. garnered 64.5 million streams in the new 24-hour record period while racking up 36.7 million on Spotify alone. Cole’s numbers closed in on Drizzy’s Views album, topping nearly one million more streams than the 2016 album.
