Georgia Senate Candidate Herschel Walker Blames Democrats For Abortion Controversy

The former NFL player had an awkward press conference.

Herschel Walker, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Georgia, is pointing fingers at Democrats after being accused of paying for an abortion.

In an Oct. 6 press conference, the former NFL player said to reporters, “I know why you’re here. You’re here because the Democrats are desperate to hold onto this seat here. They’re desperate to make this race about my family.”

Earlier this week, The Daily Beast reported that Walker allegedly paid for an abortion in 2009. Walker has denied the allegations and has threatened to sue The Daily Beast. The unidentified woman later claimed that she is the mother of one of his children. Additionally, Walker's 23-year-old son Christian Walker blasted him on social media, accusing him of violence and being a liar.

In one awkward moment, a reporter asked, “What's your reaction to your son and a mother of your kids saying you're lying?”

“Just like what I just said, the Democrats are desperate for this seat,” Walker replied.

The reporter reminded him, “But your family said it, not the Democrats.”

Walker responded with, “I love my family.”

In another strange exchange, Walker didn’t appear to know who Geoff Duncan is, the Republican Lieutenant Governor of Atlanta, who recently said, “Unfortunately, Republicans looked around to see who Trump supported and he was a famous football player and so he became our nominee and now we’re paying the price.”

When asked about his comments, Walker said, “Oh, what is he doing now?”

The reporter said, “He’s the Lieutenant Governor.”

A recent poll by SurveyUSA has Warnock with a 12% lead, 50% to 38%. According to 11Alive, 1,076 likely November voters were polled from Sept. 30 through Oct. 4. Ninety-five percent of the polling was done before The Daily Beast story.
