Beyoncé Urges People To ‘Remain’ Focused On Justice For George Floyd

Yesterday, the Minnesota attorney general brought charges against the other three officers involved in Floyd’s death.

Beyoncé shared a powerful reminder urging people to remain “aligned and focused” amid the ongoing fight for justice after charges were brought against the other three officers complicit in George Floyd’s death.

  • As worldwide protests continue against police brutality, the “Formation” singer urged everyone to not let George Floyd’s death be in vain in an Instagram post (June 3).

“The world came together for George Floyd,” she wrote alongside an aerial shot of the throngs of protestors that gathered in Minneapolis where Floyd was killed.

“We know there is a long road ahead,” her message continued. “Let’s remain aligned and focused in our call for real justice.”

  • Beyoncé’s post came on the same day that Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison announced the three other officers involved, J Alexander Kueng, Tou Thao and Thomas Lane were charged with aiding and abetting murder. Charges against former police officer Derek Chauvin were also upgraded from third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter to second-degree murder.

Her mother Tina Knowles-Lawson also took to Instagram where she thanked everyone “who played a part in this victory.”

“Thank you to all who contributed to the outcome which was successful, to get these guys at least arrested and charged,” she wrote. “Now, we have the task ahead of us to get them convicted. We must have the same diligence and tenacity to get this done.”

  • Previously, Beyoncé posted a video message in solidarity of the protestors where she called for action to be done to curb police brutality.

“We need justice for George Floyd,” she stated. “We all witnessed his murder in broad daylight. We’re broken and we’re disgusted. We cannot normalize this pain. I’m not only speaking to people of color. If you’re white, Black, brown, or anything in between, I’m sure you feel hopeless about the racism going on in America right now. No more senseless killings of human beings. No more seeing people of color as less than human. We can no longer look away.”
