Man Charged After Allegedly Hurling Rocks, Racial Slurs at Father and Daughter Fishing in Massachusetts
A Memorial Day fishing trip turned distressing for Sheron Brown and his 10-year-old daughter, Azaylia, when a man allegedly hurled rocks and racial slurs at them on Lake Shirley in Lunenburg, Massachusetts, according to reports.
According to Brown, as they were fishing near a dock, a man emerged from a nearby home, shouting that they shouldn't be there. The confrontation escalated when the man threw a rock that landed near their boat and used a racial slur. Brown captured part of the incident on video, which he later shared on social media.
The man was identified as 66-year-old David McPartlan of Ayer, Massachusetts. He faces charges including two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assault to intimidate, with allegations of anti-Black bias.
Brown, a seasoned fisherman familiar with Lake Shirley, expressed his dismay over the incident, especially given its impact on his daughter.
"I'm sad that I had to deal with this with my daughter. I'm sad that I have to explain these things to her," he told CBS News.
McPartlan is scheduled to appear in Fitchburg District Court on June 16.
