In recordings obtained by The Guardian, an Alabama officer named Troy Middlebrooks is allegedly heard proposing to kill an African-American man and was also planning to concoct a story of self-defense to cover himself.
Middlebrooks who is on the Alexander City, Ala., police force, felt Vincent Bias should have been given a harsher punishment during an encounter at the home of Bias's brother-in-law, who is white, in May 2013. On the recording he referred to Bias as "that n****r."

“And before the police got here, I’d f**king put marks all over my s**t and make it look like he was trying to f**king kill me. I godd**n guarantee you,” Middlebrooks said. “What would it look like? Self f**king defense. F**k that piece of s**t. I’m a lot different from a lot of these other folks. I’ll f**king tell you what’s on my f**king mind."

He also told Bias's brother-in-law, “That motherf**ker right there needs a godd**n bullet."
Bias had allegedly illegally unleashed a dog, which he said belonged to his brother-in-law. Middlebrooks said he would also fine Bias for an illegal electricity connection, something Bias said he had not done.

Bias received $35,000 from authorities so that Middlebrooks could not be sued over the recording.
