In 2014, she made history by becoming the youngest executive producer of a motion picture.

The world was introduced to multi-hyphenated star Marsai Martin after making her debut as Diane Johnson in the hit ABC series blackish. Now 16, she has since produced a motion picture film and broke a Guinness World Record while racking in several pretty impressive awards, including the “Young Star” honors at the BET Awards 2021. She’s already a boss, but it’s clear the young star is focusing on building an empire and lifelong legacy. Ahead of this year’s ceremony, check out five reasons why we love the young trailblazer.

  • She’s a pioneer

    Following the release of her debut motion picture, Little, in 2018, the Plano, Texas, native became the youngest person to executive produce a film at 13-years-old.

  • She’s all about women’s empowerment

    When gathering her team for her film Little, little Marsai enlisted Hollywood veteran Regina Hall, actress, and writer Issa Rae, whom she starred alongside in the movie. She also brought onboard a female writer, Tina Gordan, and director Tracy Oliver.

  • She’s all about her business

    Only 17-years-old but Marsai has already established her own production company Genius Entertainment. She leads as CEO, with her parents, Josh and Carol Martin, serving as president and vice-president.
