Normani Says She ‘Learned’ About Herself In First Film Role
In not being “super critical” of herself as a first-time actress, Normani rediscovered herself as a star in new action-comedy ‘Freaky Tales.’
The R&B singer, formerly of girl group Fifth Harmony, recently spoke to People about being in the flick, which co-stars Jay Ellis and Dominique Thorne. Similar to her reality, in ‘Freaky Tales,’ Normani plays a girl group member, Entice, who’s anticipating her mainstream shot.
“I felt like I learned a lot about myself, and I was actually able to celebrate myself and watch myself and not be super critical,” the ‘Dopamine’ vocalist said. “When I get home tonight or maybe tomorrow, I'll take my mom and my dad and my grandma and go to the movie.”
While on ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show’ last week, Normani recalled the movie feeling like an “out-of-body experience.”
“It was beautiful being able to be proud of myself,” she continued, adding, “I can be a little critical, I know y'all know that, but the first time I saw this film, I was just like, ‘Wow.’ “I'm able to celebrate myself, I'm proud of myself, I'm not nitpicking anything, like, ‘Girl, you did that.’”
Normani SZN seems to be in full bloom, as she got engaged to her now-fiancé, NFL star DK Metcalf, last month.
