  • T.J. Holmes Replaced On ‘Good Morning America’

    T.J. Holmes’ cheating scandal with Amy Robach continues to haunt him. On Dec. 10, U.S. Weekly reported that 44-year-old journalist Demarco Morgan will replace Holmes on Good Morning America. Additionally, ABC News President Kim Godwin said in an email to staffers that the two “will remain off-air pending the completion of an internal review.” It’s unknown when or if Robach and Holmes will return to ABC.

  • Diddy Announces The Birth Of His Daughter

    On Dec. 10, Diddy, 53, announced the birth of his daughter, Love Sean Combs. Although he didn’t reveal his child's mother, when reports surfaced that Yung Miami was his “side chick,” the multiple grammy-winning hip hop mogul responded. "@yungmiami305 is not my side chick. Never has been, never will be," Diddy tweeted on Dec. 13. "She’s very important and special to me, and I don’t play about my Shawty Wop. I don’t discuss things on the internet and I will not start today."

  • Breonna Taylor’s Boyfriend Settles Lawsuit With Louisville Police Department

    Kenneth Walker, who fired one shot as police barged through the apartment he shared with girlfriend Breonna Taylor on a “no-knock” warrant in March 2021, has settled his lawsuits against the city of Louisville, Kentucky. Walker will be paid $2 million to settle federal and state lawsuits, CNN reports. Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT worker, was fatally shot by police gunfire. Walker was initially charged with attempted murder of a police officer, but charges against him were dropped as the story went viral. Walker told investigators he believed he was protecting himself and Taylor from an intruder breaking into the home.

  • Respect For Marriage Act Signed

    On Dec. 13, President Joe Biden signed the Respect For Marriage Act at a White House ceremony. The legislation codifies protections for same-sex and interracial marriages, which pundits say has been threatened since the overturning of Roe V. Wade. Under the Respect for Marriage Act, if same-sex marriage was overturned, which is a possibility under the current conservative U.S. Supreme Court, each state must recognize same-sex marriage licenses from other states. However, the law does not force states to issue same-sex licenses.

  • Rest In Power, Stephen “tWitch” Boss

    On Dec. 13, dancer and DJ Stephen “tWitch” Boss died at 40. According to TMZ, police received a call reporting a shooting at a Los Angeles hotel where Boss was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Boss was a 2008 runner-up on So You Think You Can Dance. He also appeared in the Step Up franchise and Magic Mike XXL. In 2014, he began DJing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In 2020, he was named an executive producer on the popular talk show. Stephen “tWitch” Boss is survived by his wife and three children.

  • ‘Central Park Five’ To Be Honored In NYC’s Central Park

    In 1989, five Harlem teenagers, all Black and Puerto Rican — Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise — were wrongfully accused of raping a jogger in Central Park. In 2014, all five were exonerated (hence a new moniker “the Exonerated Five”) and eventually received a $41 million settlement from the city of New York. Now, an entrance in Central Park will be named in their honor, which will be known as “The Gate of the Exonerated.” New York City Mayor Eric Adams called the gate a “lasting reminder of the grave miscarriage of justice that took place.” An unveiling ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 19.

  • Justice For Pharrell Williams’ Cousin, Donovan Lynch

    On Dec. 13, the family of Donovon Lynch, a 25-year-old who was fatally shot by police in March 2021, settled their wrongful death lawsuit with the City of Virginia Beach for $3 million, according to  WAVY. Lynch, the cousin of Pharrell Williams, was shot by Officer Solomon D. Simmons, who was responding to a separate shooting incident at a Virginia Beach club on March 26, 2021. The Virgina Beach Police Department accused Lynch of “brandishing” a gun. His father, Wayne Lynch, told The Washington Post that his son had a legal firearm but was not “brandishing.” In reaction to the settlement, Wayne Lynch said, “I’m here to tell you we have justice for Donovon Lynch.” A grand jury declined to charge Officer Simmons for Donovon’s death.

  • Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation Launches Student Loan Relief Program

    This week, the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation launched the Student Solidarity Fund, which will assist Black college students, graduates, and dropouts grappling with the expenses of higher education and student loan debt. The Associated Press reports that $500,000 will be used for the fund to provide more than 500 people relief payments worth between $750 and $4,500. Eligible applicants can apply here.

  • Tory Lanez On Trial In The Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case

    Tory Lanez is currently on trial after being accused of shooting Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020 during a dispute after a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house in California. Lanez is charged with three felony counts, which include discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and carrying a concealed, loaded, and unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He has pleaded not guilty and is facing 20 years in prison if convicted. Meg testified this week, saying on the stand, "I felt shocked. I felt hurt. I wasn't sure if this was really happening. I looked at my feet, I saw the blood and I fell to the ground.”

  • Officer Who Killed Atatiana Jefferson Found Guilty Of Manslaughter

    Aaron Dean, the former officer who fatally shot Atatiana Jefferson in her mother’s home in Fort Worth, Texas, was found guilty of manslaughter on Dec. 15, according to CBS DFW. On Oct. 12, 2019, Dean and another officer responded to a call around 2:30 a.m. to investigate a door left open to the house. Dean testified that he believed there was a burglary at the home, and while he was in the backyard, he saw a gun pointed at him. Dean shot and killed Jefferson in front of her eight-year-old nephew, Zion Carr, now 11. Aaron Dean is facing between two and 20 years in prison. Jefferson’s family has not made a public statement since the conviction, CNN reports.
