Look: Here's the Heat's Touching Plan to Honor Late Marlins Pitcher Jose Fernandez

Gone but never forgotten.

It has been just over two weeks since Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was tragically killed in a boating accident at the age of 24.

At the time, current and former Miami Heat players — and a host of other athletes from different sports — sent their condolences to the Fernandez family, his Marlins' teammates and organization.

Now, the Heat are taking that a step forward.

For tonight's home preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets in Miami, Heat players will don shooting shirts with Fernandez's "JDF" initials and his number 16 stamped below the team's logo.

Take a look.

Classy gesture from the Heat, remembering a Miami superstar whose life ended way too soon.

Gone, but never forgotten.

This gesture follows the Marlins' heartbreaking tribute to the fallen star pitcher late last month.

Just before his untimely death, Fernandez had announced that he and his girlfriend were expecting their first child.
