If there’s one person who lives rent-free in President Donald Trump’s mind, it’s former president Barack Obama. Over the weekend, Trump used an AI image to mock Barack Obama’s presidential center, posting the fake photo on his Truth Social account. The image portrayed the Chicago site as a giant dumpster surrounded by trash and tents.

He then captioned the image, “The Barack Hussein Obama Library, in 10 years, when fully matured!” The post was shared just days before the Obama Presidential Center is set to open on June 19 in Chicago’s Hyde Park. The image appeared to be another shot in a one-sided feud over the South Side project, which has faced criticism from Trump before for its cost and timeline.

The Obama Presidential Center has grown from an original estimate of about $350 million to roughly $850 million, as it’s grown from previous plans as an archive to a cultural center. The updated plans meant the opening had been delayed several years from the first projections. The center is scheduled to open on Juneteenth, a date that gives the project added symbolic weight. 

In April, Eric Trump shared a video of the proposed plans for the Trump presidential library in Miami, which drew criticism for its lack of books, research, and archival focus, similar to most presidential centers. In fact, the rendering appeared to be more like a resort or glitzy hotel. “I don’t believe in building libraries or museums,” the president told reporters, per HuffPo.

This is one of many AI-generated attacks on Obama from the president. Earlier this year, Trump shared a political video that depicted both the former president and former first lady Michelle Obama as apes.
