It's official: the role of Ice Cube in the upcoming biopic on NWA will be played by none other than Cube's own son, O'Shea Jackson, Jr. This will be the feature film debut for the rapper's lookalike son, and the casting is something Cube has been trying to "get pushed along" for a while.
Director F. Gary Gray will direct Straight Outta Compton from a script by Jonathan Herman, which Ice Cube described as a "dramatic story that encompasses hip-hop, dope-dealing, Reaganomics, AIDS, LAPD, rap feuds, FBI, PMRC, the Parental Advisory stickers on the records ... all of it."

Eazy-E's son has also lobbied for a role, but TheWrap.com reports an unknown actor will likely get the part, and that Universal could announce the main cast before week's end. Ice Cube is producing the movie with his fellow NWA founding member Dr. Dre and Easy-E's widow, Tomica Woods-Wright. The trio has casting approval. Cube also hinted that he is working on Dre to create some original music for the film. 
While the project has not officially gotten the green light, it looks like the stars are finally aligning for the long-in-development film.
In the meantime, Cube will next be seen in the highly-anticipated summer flick 22 Jump Street, which hits theaters on Friday, June 13.  Check out our interview below!
