Michelle Obama Playfully Calls Out Barack’s Bad Habit
Michelle Obama has spent more than three decades with Barack Obama, but even after all these years, there’s one habit of his that still gets under her skin.
During the first episode of her new podcast “IMO,” which she co-hosts with her brother Craig Robinson, the former first lady revealed a long-standing pet peeve about the 44th president—his questionable sense of timing.
“I got this husband who’s like, when it's time to leave, it’s three o'clock, he’s getting up and going to the bathroom!” Michelle shared on the March 11 episode. “And I was like, ‘Dude, dude, three o’clock departure means you’ve done all that,’ you know? Don’t start looking for your glasses, you know, at the three o’clock departure.”
Craig, quick to defend his brother-in-law, chalked it up to “island time,” referencing Barack’s laid-back upbringing in Hawaii. Michelle admitted that Barack’s punctuality improved over their 30-year marriage, but early on, he had to learn what being “on time” really meant to her.
Later during the podcast, she and her brother recalled how, growing up, they were taught that “on time was late,” a mindset she’s tried to instill in their daughters, Sasha and Malia. “If they're doing anything with me,” Michelle said, “they are early.”
But even with those small annoyances, she wouldn’t trade her marriage for anything. On an episode of Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, she reflected on the ups and downs of their relationship, especially the challenges that came with Barack’s presidency.
“With all the ups and downs, with all the running for president stuff… Talk about that being a big, gaping thing in our lives,” she said at the time. “But the good has outweighed it. And if we hadn't hung in there, we would've missed all the good.”
