Kanye West Speaks On The People Who Don’t Believe His Spiritual Awakening
While some Yeezy fans have welcomed Kanye West’s transformation to born-again Christian with a gospel-leaning sound, the Chicago rapper’s newfound spirituality has also earned some criticism from critics who don’t find his new persona to be genuine. The rollout for his new music, Jesus Is King has been mired with skepticism. His flagrant endorsement of Donald Trump’s provocative, firebrand politics also hasn’t helped.
In his newest guest appearance on James Corden’s, The Late Late Show, Kanye opened up about the epiphany that led to his spiritual awakening after his 2016 hospitalization. In the interview, which was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday, October 29, Kanye shot down suspicions that his newfound relationship with God is manufactured.
Kanye posed these questions: “I’d say when you go to sleep, would you agree that you are sleep when you’re asleep? And when you wake up, would you agree that you’re awake when you’re awake? Would you agree that those are two different states? People who don’t believe (me) are walking dead. They are asleep and this is the awakening.”
Kanye said that he believes God is, as best as he `humbly’ put it, `using [him] to show off.’ To make his point, the 42-year old pointed to his current successes, which he attributes to God turning his life around.
“Last year, I made $150 million dollars and still ended up $35 million dollars in debt,” he claimed. “This year, I looked up and I just got $68 million returned to me on my tax returns. People say, ‘Oh, don’t talk about these numbers.’ No! People need to hear someone that has been put into debt by the system talk about these kind of numbers now that they are in service to Christ.”

Corden pondered what West attributes his “spiritual awakening” to. ‘Ye continued, “My success. Absolutely. (He’s) showing off. (He’s) just showing out. Yeezy (is) worth $3 billion. It’s the number one Google-searched brand in the world. He's showing out. Now, I get to work for God and He (is) about to show out!"
It’s worth noting that Yeezy’s claim has been debunked after BET ran the numbers.
