Pharrell Williams Shares His Morning Routine and It Will Make You Rethink Your Own
While you're still in the bed, Pharrell is in the gym.
The iconic superproducer shared a glimpse into his morning routine with The Jasmine Brand--and it is as iconic as he is.
The 13-time Grammy Award-winning producer starts the day at 5 a.m. with a workout that includes a "Five-minute plank and 500 crunches."
He then goes on to explain that he takes a "an hour-long, super-hot bath" to "sweat out two or three pounds."
However, experts at Insider want you to know that the water weight the body loses when we sweat from heat or physical exertion varies from person to person, and isn't the same as fat loss. Williams will likely pick those 2 to 3 pounds back up with rehydration.
Still, he says that he uses his bath time to think through problems or "That's where you either meditate or pray or do both," he added, "And I spend that time also just giving thanks and reverence to the universe."
As you might expect, the legendary producer also has a hardcore skincare routine which keeps him looking young at 50.
In 2020, he told GQ that he exfoliates "like a madman."
"When you exfoliate and you drink a lot of water, that does good for you," he said. "To me, the key is just exfoliating, like a monster. There's a lot of dead skin. All the time. Like a narcissistic madman."
"Your face is the expression of your personality," he added. "You gotta take care of it."
Pharrell's productivity schedule has long been a curiosity. In 2013, Fast Company interviewed him about how he managed to get so much done. At the time, he said, he starts his work day with "phone calls from somewhere between 10:30 a.m. and noon." He also spends many hours a day in the studio.
Pharrell also shared that his personal "bible" is the classic Paulo Coelho novel, The Alchemist, the best-selling fable about following your destiny or “personal legend”–the enthusiasms that get buried as we grow up, by prejudice, guilt, and fear. “That book confirmed what I always thought in my heart and felt in my mind."
Pharrell also noted that one secret of his success is the people he surrounds himself with mean people who “recognize that they are different, and they’re unafraid of that and don’t mind shaking hands with the next different person. Most anything I do I do because it involves someone I can learn from,” he adds.
“Sometimes you just gotta put your pride aside and be quiet so that you can absorb not only what a person is saying but how they are saying it–their energy, their body language. It’s all for a reason.”
