Today, Wednesday Oct. 3, something none of us asked for happened. (And no, we aren't talking about your co-worker who won't stop quoting Mean Girls.)

Just after 2 p.m., the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission tested their first presidential alert by sending this message to the phones of all Americans.

Everyone with a cellphone should have received the text
At first, everyone complained about the unsolicited message
But then the memes arrived, and they were splendid

Eventually celebs, musicians, companies, sports teams, etc used the trend to promote themselves
