Young Jeezy had New York going crazy last night (July 25), taking over the Highline Ballroom to celebrate the sixth anniversary of his classic debut Thug Motivation 101. The ATL rapper brought out a host of friends, including Jay-Z, Kanye West and Bun B, for a set that lasted about 75 minutes.
TM101 was released in 2005 and catapulted Jeezy to stardom as one of the foremost figures of the Southern hip hop renaissance. He followed the album with Thug Motivation 102: The Inspiration in 2006 and The Recession in 2008. But since that album, the Snow Man has largely produced mixtape releases while facing a number of delays for his planned fourth effort, Thug Motivation 103. The show last night was as much about getting people excited for the Corporate Thugz founder's future as it was about reveling in the past.
"Ya’ll in for a hell of a night tonight. I’m in New York City. I came to show my ass,” Jeezy said at the top of the show. "This is a celebration!"
Jeezy played TM101 in its entirety, as well as a selection of his greatest hits. Jay-Z was a special guest for the remix of "Go Crazy," and the man of the hour brought out Kanye West for his smash "Put On." Other guests during the star-studded evening included Bun B, Fabolous and The Lox.
At the end of the show, Jeezy hit the crowd with the biggest surprise of the evening: the release date for his new album.
"TM103 will be in stores September 20. Goodnight, I love ya’ll!” he announced.
